Location
High Tatras (in Slovak Vysoké Tatry) is highest mountain range in Slovakia and is the only mountain range in Slovakia with an Alpine character. It is located in the north of Central Slovakia in Prešov Region (Prešovský kraj) - districts Poprad, Kežmarok and in Žilina Region (Žilinský kraj) - district Liptovský Mikuláš.

The area of mountains is 341 km² (260 km² in Slovakia and 81 km² in Poland).
Highest peak
Highest peak of High Tatras is Gerlach Peak (Gerlachovský štít) - 2 655 m. a.s.l., which is the highest peak in Slovakia. More information can be found in the Hills and peaks section.
