. This anti-Turkish Renaissance fortress was built in 1564-1571. New Castle had also the function of a watch tower. It was the part of military signaling system against the Turks on the territory from city of Levice to Ľubietová called Central Slovak Mining Towns Association. After the end of the Turkish wars, it served as a gunpowder warehouse for the mining industry in city of Banská Štiavnica, later the fire patrol, so-called "live clock".New Castle was opened to the public as a museum in 1971, the permanent exhibition is located on the 4 floors. The exhibition, which is part of the Slovak Mining Museum, documents the military situation, the armament of anti-Turkish fortresses and weapons. You can also see here painted shooting targets whose origins date back to the period of Turkish conquests, paintings of members of the Koháry family, which significantly participated in the battles against the Turks.
From the New Castle, there is a unique view of the historic center of the city also through binoculars, where you can compare the urban development with installed period photographs.
