We have updated the population data as of December 31, 2024. Slovakia entered 2025 with a population of 5,419,451 (permanent resident population), which represents a decrease of 5,236 inhabitants compared to 2023. Since 2021, the population has decreased by 15,261.

There are 4,583,072 inhabitants of the Slovak nationality in Slovakia, which is 84.57% of the total population. The most numerous - the largest national minority in Slovakia is the Hungarians, with 412,998 inhabitants (7.62% of the total population).

The population aging trend continues. The number of pre-productive age residents (children under 14 years old) decreased by 10,866 compared to 2023, and the number of post-productive age residents (65 years and older) increased by 23,294.

There are more women than men in Slovakia. The number of men in Slovakia in 2024 is 2,650,949 (48.92%) and the number of women in the same period is 2,768,502 (51.08%).
