Tourist regions in Slovakia and traditional - historical regions of Slovakia
There are 25 traditional regions in Slovakia, which are also considered tourist regions - regions of tourism. They were created on the basis of historical, economic, social and cultural conditions or on the basis of geographical areas. The territories and names of many traditional regions are similar to the former counties, which were created in the middle of 19th century. Counties were state units that replaced the former noble seats, previously royal counties. On the map below, the Zamagurie and Tatra regions are often considered part of the Spiš region, because the territory of this region was previously part of the Spiš County.
