Jozef Pekara's idea was to incorporate images from the life of the Slovak people into the biblical scene. In the middle of the work is the scene of God's birth and placed in the village Rajecka Lesná.
All Slovak regions are represented around it by their most famous places and monuments. Castles Devín, Bratislava, Trenčín, Orava, cathedrals in Nitra, Trnava, Spišská Kapitula, Košice and others. In the background rises Kriváň, one of the Tatra peaks, which is a symbol of the Slovak country.
The work shows work and crafts, which the Slovak people once engaged, their national costumes, customs and way of life.Slovak Bethlehem is a textbook of history and geography, a mirror of the art and art of carving traditions in Rajec. Altogether there are about 300 characters, half of which are moving.
The public opening ceremony of this remarkable work was done on November 26, 1995. A part of the Slovak Bethlehem building is also the Gallery on the first floor, where wood carvings of important rajec carvers, such as Brieštenský, Veselý, Bača, are exhibited.
