National system of protected areas
National parks (NP) and Protected landscape areas (PLA) are referred to as Large-scale protected areas (LPA). These are larger areas, usually with an area of over 1000 ha. Nature reserves (NR), National nature reserves (NNR), Natural monuments (NM), National Natural Monuments (NNM), Protected areas (PA), Protected Landscape Elements (PLE), Municipality protected areas (MPA), and Nature Parks (NPK) are called Small-scale protected areas (SPA). All these protected areas form a National system of protected areas, divided into categories. For example: National Park (NP) is a category of protected areas and at the same time a Large-Scale Protected Area (LPA).
