Natural areas of international importance in Slovakia
A territory of international importance is a site to which obligations and recommendations in the field of nature and landscape protection apply, which for the Slovak Republic result from international treaties by which it is bound, from membership in international organizations and from international programs to which the Slovak Republic has acceded.
Territories of international importance consist of wetlands of international importance (Ramsar sites), UNESCO World Heritage sites, biosphere reserves, territories with the Council of Europe Diploma and other internationally significant areas registered in lists maintained by the relevant bodies established on the basis of international treaties by which the Slovak Republic is bound, bodies of international organizations of which the Slovak Republic is a member or bodies of international programs to which the Slovak Republic has acceded (§ 28b, section 1).
