The manor house was originally built in baroque style as a two-wing building with arcades surrounding an open courtyard with a baroque stone fountain (detail can be seen in the picture of Apotheosis of Death of Mary Gabriella Kohary). Museum´s expositions present an overview of the contemporary aristocrasy housing, as well as on the evolution of hunting in Slovakia.
In the middle of 18th century, Earl Andrej Kohary completed the process of re-building the manor house into a wealthy four-wing noble residence. The Kohary and Coburg families made an essential contribution in the history of the manor house.
Here, they concentrated beautiful pieces of artwork and crafts from various parts of the world (18th – 20th centuries). The rich furnishing of rooms reflects the way of life, taste and hobbies of the members of these families. The manor house has served the purpose of a museum since 1962; currently it is a museum of art, history and hunting.
Expositions
An inseparable part of the history of the mansion in Svätý Anton is Kohárys and Coburg, who collected here beautifull craftsmanship nad skilled hands of artists and master craftsmen from different parts of the world, from the early 18th century to the early 20th century.
The rich facilities of the mansion, you can admire in the art-historical exposition, it reflects the lifestyle, tastes and interests of the two families.Thanks to the unusual integrity, authentic form and diversity of the collections of the complex was in 1985 declared as nation cultural monument.
Hunting exposition, the largest of its kind in Slovakia, contains not only many rare trophy game, but also a rich collection of historical hunting weapons, paintings, art objects, book, magazines and photographs. Topics kynology, falconry, fishing and marksmanship are compelmented with the dioramas of the animals that living in Slovakia who love especially children.
The village of Svätý Anton (St. Anthony) located south of city of Banska Stiavnica is part of the territory of UNESCO world heritage. There is lot of cultural and historical monuments situated on this territory.
History
Landmark of the village is the baroque-classical mansion that was built on the site less fortified castle, first time mentioned in the 15th century. It belongs to the group of feudal settlements that arose during the great building activity of the Hungarian military aristocracy, devoted to the Habsburgs, who became rich in anti-Turkish resistance.
On its building-up, decoration and later rebuilding participated in important European architects and artists (Giulio Ferrari, John Entzenhofer, Anton Schmidt and Dionýz Stanetti). The mansion was built in Baroque style as double-winging building with arcades opened into the courtyard with a Baroque stone fountain. In the middle of the 18th century, the count Andrej Koháry finished the rebuilding of the manor house into a splendid four-winged noble mansion.
The manor house has been used as a museum since 1962. At present, there is an art-historical and hunting exhibition in the mansion. Thanks to the diversity of its collections, preserved in an exceptionally complete and authentic form, in 1985 the whole area of the manor house in Svätý Anton (St. Anthony) was declared a National Cultural Monument.
